What is the meaning of CH’I?

We often have this question, what is the ,meaning of CH’I?. In Eastern traditions, there is an ancient concept that believes ‘CH’I’ is the life force, the essential energy which flows from the Earth through every living thing, reaching and energising all of us.

CH'I pronunciation

QI (pronounced CH’eee) CH’I starts in the Earth and flows through every living thing giving the essential breath of life.

energy flow

Energy the world over

The concept of such energy is found in most of the ancient cultures of the world…

In India, it is called prana;  in China, chi; in Japan, ki;  for Native Americans, the Great Spirit. For all these cultures and others as well, the idea of life force has been central to their forms of medicine and healing.

Traditional Eastern medicine often aims to restore the right levels of Ch’i to keep the body and soul healthy. A strong life force is believed to make a human being totally alive, alert and present while a weak force results in sluggishness and fatigue. You can increase and develop your Ch’i to overcome illness, become more vibrant and enhance mental capacity

Both Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture are based on balancing and enhancing Ch’i to bring the body into a good state of health. Herbs are one of the key tools in this form of medicine.

We are not students of Eastern medicines, and make no claims for therapeutic outcomes from our herbal refreshers, but we are truly inspired by the ancient view of essential, positive energy flowing from the Earth. That it can be captured and directed to rejuvenate each of us? Is a metaphor and inspiration for the work we do in finding and handcrafting earthy, herbal ideas.

How could we not be inspired by this concept from the meaning of CH’I? We imagined what ‘CH’I’ would taste like and went from there…
